  • My sil tells me that her 7 yo autistic ds is doing well and will be "declassified" soon. I had read that that is almost unheard of. How is this possible? Do you know of others who have successfully done this?

    • Yes, it's possible. Not sure but I suspect it's because other issues can look like autism in young kids. Or it could be that the therapies really made a difference

    • declassified just means the board of ed. no longer feels services are needed. That doesn't mean the disabiltiy is gone,and sometimes they are wrong anyway. I know in the autism world parents love to be declassified b/c it represents real progress. But in the LD world we live in fear of being declassified b/c our kids are still dyslexic and ADD and need support. SO its often a question of perspective.
