  • I am so stressed out - I have a teen recently diagnosed with ADD - failing her second year of h.s. - so I'm pursuing a 504 for her to get extra help -- she's seeing a therapist and a psych - who won't prescribe a medication covered by my crappy insurance so the meds are costing me $130 a month! AND I have a 1st grader who I'm persuing an appt w/a dev. ped. with in June - but the social worker has suggested a Sensory Evaluation at Rusk; I am constantly trying to get referrals and information from our regular ped and follow up with these speciallists... My head is so full trying to follow up with everyone because NOONE calls or writes back - EVER; It's amazing; Thank god I work part time from home or else I could NEVER do this stuff.

    • I'm sorry. That would be hard to deal with all at once. Have you shopped around for the cost of meds? Sam's Club has the lowest usually and you don't have to be a member to get prescriptions there. GL

          • those are for generics; unfortunately - the generics for the ADD meds is a straight amphetamine - which are not long acting or extended release -- so a teenager would have to walk around with 3 of them in her pocket all day; These are controlled substances -- highly marketable - so the psych won't prescribe them for a kid this age;

          • No--it's clear that the mom is a medical-attention-seeker.

            • I swear I don't even understand what kind of joy you would get for knocking me down this way ... My kids have never even been on antibiotics and the kid on ADD meds is almost 16 yrs old; The other one isn't on any meds and is seeing a dev. ped. for the first time ... we have no history of seeking medical attention; Sadly I'm under enough stress that this string is really making me upset - when normally I'd just walk away .

              • Don't let her upset you. She may not be a mom, sometimes we get 12, 13 year old girls playing around. If she is a mom, she has had a small life and believes things she reads or hears easily and applies them quickly to other people's real life situations. The rest of us believe you and know how hard it is for you. GL

    • Think of it this way most kids with ADD end up in a field that is artistic, like cooking, art, fashion etc..... I am ADD and I am a chef

      • yes - my daughter is artistic and a photographer -- I just want to see her get through high school with her self confidence ... as she is failing now and in a very high pressure - tough acacdemic school; Now I realize it was probably the wrong HS for her - but she chose it and this city makes it very difficult to transfer out.

    • OP, cross posting SN with other boards will always attract flamers - it's very unpleasant. I'd advise against it for your own sanity. FYI, David Salsberg at NYU is the best if you want to have a neuropsych eval for your 1st grader. He may not need it, but ask the social worker and whoever you speak with at Rusk what they think

    • Are you a regular poster on the SN board? We have not been posting SN issues to other boards because they tend to attract pretty hurtful responses from non-SN parents who just don't get it...PLEASE, if you have an issue in the future, please only post to SN. Thanks.
