Do your homework (consult the latest statistics and compare to other bed designs and brands) before deciding against this bed. You can find isolated instances of injury and death for most types and brands of beds that are widely in use. Often, these unfortunate accidents happen as the result of incorrect use and/or monitoring. Hundreds of thousands of Amby Beds have been used without incident throughout the world (in my home included) and it seems to me best to get more information about the recent incidents in the U.S. before rejecting a product that has been directly linked to REDUCING the instance of infant injury and SIDS.
