second dd had very easy temp and it wasn't even cio- we laid her down and she went to sleep. First db, we tried everything in the book before we ended up with a sleep consultant and doing cio. It was awful- she cried a lot and fell asleep sitting up in her crib. We hung in there even though I had always deplored the concept of cio. OUr whole family was having health and well being issues related to her sleep issues before we got to this point. It took a week and she slept through the night ever since (we did it at 11 mos). She is also a happy, confident, attached 4 yo now so my fears of "damaging" her by cio were unfounded. Every dc is different. For us, we had to try other approaches before we could resort to cio or we wouldn't ...

[-]My husband and I were recently reminiscing about the birth of our child five years ago and the music that reminds us of that special time. Music seems to define my life experiences: 80s pop in high school; grunge in college; and Joni Mitchell, HEM, and Van Morrison for the amazing day in 2003 when we welcomed our precious Alexander into the world. Now I'm kind of obsessed with learning what music people had playing just before, during or after giving birth. I did find this beautiful post that's worth a read: http://jamsbio.com/user/norah28/mother_music/

[-]btdt moms: how long is this phase going to last? 2yo dd transitioned out of crib weeks ago and still puts up a huge fight each night, runs around room and eventually passes out on the floor. she was such a good sleeper since birth that this just really gets to me. How much longer will this go on?

a musical pull toy worked for us, you know the kind that usually hangs in the crib...hung it over the new bed, i turn off the light, tuck db in, pull the cord, and i'm out of there...sometimes she pulls it again, sometimes just falls asleep.....anyway, just say goodnight and turn off the light, get out of the room, and if your db wants to run around and pass out on the floor, so be it...put her in bed once asleep and voila
[ Reply | Options ]Just make sure her room is safe. My ds did this for quite a while. Also, I would go back into his room and put him back in the bed. Each time saying - "stay in your bed" - he still get's up some (about 6 mos later), but hasn't slept on the floor in months and months. gl - this too shall pass. fwiw - I disagree about laying next to her till she falls asleep.

doesn't work very well, does it...they don't respond well to commands at 2...either keep walking her back, or allow to fall asleep on the floor
[ Reply | Options ]OR and my dd can scale any gate and pry open any doorknob cover, so there's no containing her and it's a nigthmare, and I never had a bad night with her since seh was born until this awful bed thing.

[ Reply | Options ]I had her in a crib with a crib tent for many months and it was wonderful. My problem was that I got my 1st a new bed, put her old bed in her room, then when I took away her pacis she demanded to sleep in the bed and wanted nothing to do with the crib. I'd *definitely* try the crib tent.

okay obviously my dd must be a gymnast in training because she EASILY climbs out of the crib with NO FEAR. I wanted her to stay in the crib until she was 4. I did NOT want her out.
[ Reply | Options ]Do a crib tent - they are safe, not scary/enclosing at all, the kids think they are fun!
[ Reply | Options ]they don't always work, and you have to get your kid in a real bed eventually. It is a transition and it wont be easy no matter how long you delay it

[-]I hereby hate every mode of transportation. Driving stinks with constant traffic, my subway commute during rush hour is crowded and painfully slow, and even my commuter train never gets into Grand Central on time. There's a transportation crisis, at least in NY. I'm here to tell you....
