Home Stuffed
You dressed your Maltese as a dandelion for Halloween, and the kids have caught on. Their stuffed animals need a walk-in closet, with all the teddy bear-sized costumes in the toy chest. This year's birthday absolutely must revolve around the beloved bears, but the challenge is to make it simple and special – no cookie cutter party spaces or billion-dollar blowouts, thank you.
Ted-E-Makers hosts in-home, make-your-own-bear parties complete with a selection of animals and outfits. Choices include bears, dogs, cats and cows dressed like cheerleaders, brides, football players or superheroes. Kids stuff the animals themselves by hand, then wish upon a star which is tucked into the animal before it's closed with a zipper and Velcro. After the animal is named, the new little owner is issued a birth certificate and adoption papers. Each child takes the 15-inch plush pal home in its own little box, which happens to convert into a miniature highchair.
Outside Manhattan, Ted-E-Makers will ship the supplies to your home. You can even download a menu of animal and outfit selections to include with your invitations. Instruct guests to let you know their choices when they RSVP so you can order exactly what everyone wants.
The next challenge: Containing kids on a birthday cake-fueled sugar high.
