The Sound of Music
You've gotten a lot of mileage out of all the Laurie Berkner and Wiggles CDs. But now the kids are craving something new as they "mature."
Robbi K may have the answer. Her albums offer a cornucopia of different music genres (jazz, pop, world beat, calypso, blues and Broadway) so there's bound to be something to appeal to budding music critics. To celebrate the release of her third children's album, Music Makes Me Happy, Robbi K is hosting a CD release party at the Bowery Poetry Club this weekend.
Robbi K, who has sung back-up with biggies like Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Mary K. Blige, is one of the only African-American women to establish herself on the national scene as a children's musician. Sunday's performance will showcase songs from the new CD as well as favorites from Robbi's Keep the Beat shows.
Madiba restaurant will provide South African treats for concertgoers to nibble, and families can enjoy CD giveaways and a CD signing.
And you may finally be able to get the words of Berkner's addictive "Victor Vito" out of your head.
When: Sun., 7/8, 12-1pm; $10.
Where: Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery (at Bleecker), 212-614-0505, bowerypoetry.com.
