If you don't know a Mei Tai from a Mai Tai, it might be time to
educate yourself in the international language of baby carriers.
Metro Minis, a new store on the Upper East Side, offers baby-wearing
contraptions from around the world, including some home-grown brands
– and they'll show you how to use them. The shop also sells
other baby paraphernalia that's far more interesting than the standard
stuff the old stand-bys have – fleece vests and knit ponchos
designed to be worn over a baby carrier, training pants from Australia,
Haba toys from Germany. They even stock special leg warmers your
chilly little bambina can wear when her pants get scrunched up in
the baby carrier.
After shopping, swing by the store's parenting workshops, sling
seminars and mommy-and-me yoga classes. This place is on to something:
If you strain your back toting around junior, you can learn how
to do a pose to ease your pain.
Open Tues., Wed. & Fri. 11am-5pm, Thurs. 11am-7:30pm, Sat. 12-5pm.
Closed Sun. & Mon. 821 Park Ave. at 75th St., 212-313-9600,
metrominis.com.
